Dead-based Paint
Deth P. Sun paints colorful, cartoonish pictures of cats and clouds among other things. "So Why" you may be asking yourself "should I attend a Deth P. Sun exhibition when my 4 -year-old child is showing a similar exhibition on my refrigerator door?" because, dear reader, behind the surface - level whimsy of Sun's work, one often encounters an underlying menace or sadness: Sun's cute cats wear bandages and drink beer. His clouds are often polluted. Cryptic messages such as "Give up, Give in" add to the melancholic mystique. Said warm-fuzzy/cold-prickly contrasts are reason enough to check out the young Oakland, california based artist's latest works. Oh yeah, then there's the fact that Sun is a much better painter than your child.
