Shop Right
Terry Miller
What do you get for someone you hate? I had that problem last week when I was Christmas shopping for my partner - who I actually love but who was also pissing me off. He wouldn't let the argument we were having die. Even though I ignored him every time he brought up the verboten subject, he just kept at it.
Frankly, it wasn't big enough of a deal to break up over, but CHRIST! Just shut your fucking pie hole already!
Anyway, while I was browsing Bluebottle's shelves some doughnuts caught my eye. Not just any donuts mind you. These were beautifully handcrafted donuts by Stuart Bloomfield under the moniker Sewdorky ($12), made from felt with beaded jimmies and "nuts" made from little stomes. My partner is on a perpetual diet and these would serve to remind him of the deliciousness he constantly denies himself.
Gifts for people I love would include the tottaly cool handmade kafka-themed View-Master sets made by Vladmaster ($20 for fours discs), hilariously comtemporary and retro at the same time! The store is stocked with great prints, every one of which looks like it could have graced the cover of this very publication ($20 -$50).
And my best friend will die when she gets a piece of jewelry by Faryn Davis that looks like a little bone surrounded by purple glass ($25). But really, the doughnuts are cool. And I'm going to leave them to torture my relentlessly argumentative, constantly dieting mate for a long, long time.
